We celebrate 10 years of the Heini-Holzer Via Ferrata
The Heini-Holzer Via Ferrata on the Little Ifinger Peak is celebrating its 10th anniversary. It has become one of South Tyrol’s most popular via ferratas, attracting climbers and mountain enthusiasts from across the region and beyond. Known for combining alpine adventure with spectacular views over the Merano area, the route’s moderate difficulty makes it accessible to a wide range of visitors. Built over eight months with support from the South Tyrol Alpine Club (Alpenverein Südtirol) and funded by Schenna’s tourism sector, the project involved significant logistical challenges, including helicopter transport of materials.
Named after renowned extreme skier and mountaineer Heini Holzer, the via ferrata continues to embody his pioneering spirit and passion for the mountains. A small anniversary ceremony was held on June 12 at Merano 2000 to celebrate ten successful years and recognize all those involved in the route’s development and maintenance.
A decade after its inauguration, the via ferrata remains a flagship alpine attraction and a successful example of sustainable outdoor tourism in South Tyrol.
