Tree Festival
at Merano 2000

PLANTING ROOTS FOR THE FUTURE TOGETHER

On 19 May, the Tree Festival took place at Merano 2000. Around 30 families, together with the Municipality of Merano and the Merano Forestry Station, planted trees for the newborns of 2025. The initiative combined a nature experience with a symbolic contribution to the future, sending a visible message about the mindful treatment of the alpine landscape.

As part of the Municipality of Merano’s Tree Festival, which was held at Merano 2000 for the first time, one tree was planted for each newborn from Merano attending the event. The focus was on the youngest members of the community: the newborns of 2025, who together with their families symbolically planted trees and thereby created a living sign for the future. Around the Wallpach reservoir in the lower hiking area of Merano 2000, the young trees were planted under the expert guidance of the Merano Forestry Station. The project was implemented through close cooperation between the Municipality of Merano, the Forestry Authority, and Merano 2000 Funivie Spa.

The Tree Festival was far more than a one-time planting initiative. Reforesting a non-grazed area made a concrete contribution to preserving the alpine landscape while also raising awareness of ecological connections. For the participating families, the Tree Festival became a special experience: the planted trees will now grow together with the children, standing in the long term for responsibility, a connection with nature, and the future.

“The Tree Festival is a wonderful reflection of what Merano 2000 stands for: the mindful treatment of our natural environment and responsibility towards future generations. Families planting trees together that will grow alongside their children is a powerful symbol that will have an impact far beyond this single day,” said Andreas Zanier, President of Merano 2000 Funivie Spa.

Following the planting activity, all participants were invited to enjoy refreshments at the Rotwand Mountain Hut, bringing the shared day to a close in a relaxed atmosphere.
