RESPECT FOR THE MOUNTAINS

RESPECT FOR THE MOUNTAINS

FOR A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE

The mountains, in all their wild beauty, are not just recreation and leisure spots. They are also home to a wide array of plant and animal species and serve as an essential economic resource for local farmers: Merano 2000 is committed to preserving this delicate balance for future generations.

For years, a range of initiatives and projects have been implemented to foster respect for the mountains. These efforts touch upon various aspects, from biodiversity conservation to erosion protection, and even company-specific measures in human resources management.

In early 2024, Merano 2000 launched a strategic sustainability initiative, formalising development efforts to ensure the area remains resilient and sustainable for years to come.

SUSTAINABILITY
REPORT

In the autumn of 2023, Merano 2000 Funivie Spa began a process to define its strategic and sustainable direction. This led to the creation of its first sustainability report, which focuses on three key macro-topics: Ecology, Social Issues and Governance.

Within this framework, eight critical areas were identified, with specific objectives and actions defined for each.

The publication of this inaugural report thus marks the beginning of a journey towards enhancing the resilience and protection of the area – preserving natural cycles, infrastructure, employees and partners alike.

PRESERVING
BIODIVERSITY

The diverse natural environment is home to countless species and represents one of the most valuable assets of Merano 2000 – one which must be protected and preserved. For over 20 years, annual meetings with landscape protection authorities have been held to develop measures to safeguard the area. These efforts include revegetation and erosion control projects.

Specially protected areas and species are carefully monitored, such as the Spieler area, which is a designated habitat for the black grouse, and the rhododendron species, which can be found near and around the S. Osvaldo church.

Energy consumption plays a pivotal role in the carbon footprint and deserves special attention. As and from 2023, Merano 2000 has been using exclusively 100% green energy produced by Alperia to power its ski lifts.
