The sun-soaked hiking resort of Merano 2000 is an irresistible invitation to swap the bustling city for a day out and about in nature at 2000 m above sea-level: Revel in stunning panoramic views stretching as far as the Ortles range and the Dolomites, our very own UNESCO World Heritage Site.

A number of hiking trails run from Falzeben and Pivigna all the way to the remote, solitary Lake San Pancrazio. Other popular destinations on the soft-rolling plateau include Kuhleiten (2363 m), Kesselberg (2300 m), Mittager (2422 m) and Passo della Croce.

For anyone in need of a peaceful time-out to recharge the batteries and let the mind, body and soul relax, Merano 2000 has countless powerful places of great energy in store – from the small mountain-top chapel dedicated to St Oswald to the Missenstein mountain pass. And be sure not to miss out on the Stone Men, a spectacular hilltop plateau covered in dramatically tall stacks of rocks!

Ride the ropeway to its mid-way station, a fascinating architectural feat, take a short walk downhill crossing the steep pastures of the Maso Gsteier inn and treat yourself to some of their famous home-cooked delicacies. From there, you can hike to scenic Scena, uphill to the mountain station of the ropeway or simply back down to the valley station.

TO THE KREUZJÖCHL

Its vastness and 360-degree all-around view make the Kreuzjöchl truly special: this hike, which offers magnificent views, leads via the Waidmann Alp and Meraner Hut to the Kreuzjöchl at 1,984 metres above sea level.

PICCOLO PICCO IVIGNA

There are several paths that lead to the top of Ivigna, but the feeling once you've reached the peak is always the same: After mastering its exposed south-western flank or completing the via ferrata to the top, a sense of pure freedom takes hold. An absolute must: a stop-over at the Rifugio Kuhleiten inn, the true home of Alpine hospitality.

360° vistas

Located at 2422 m above sea-level, Monte Catino offers jaw-dropping, all-round views from the Ortles group to the Dolomites. Time to take a deep breath, let the gaze wander and recharge the batteries of the soul.

2 SUMMITS - MADE EASY

Summit hopping from the quiet "Windspitz" to the magical "Mittager". A 360° panorama, with a view of Lake Caldaro in the southern South Tyrol, the Sarentino valley, the summits of the Passiria Valley, the characteristic skyline of the Dolomites, even as far as the Ortles and Merano.

A trip right into the uppermost reaches of Merano 2000 provides impressive views down into the Sarntal valley: this circular hike via the Mittager Alpine Hut leads first to the Windspitz, then continues to the Kesselberg Alpine Hut and from there to the Giogo di Pietramala. Fabulous views are guaranteed!

Admittedly, it takes a bit of courage to dive into the chilly waters of Lake S. Pancrazio. But you'll boost your circulation and leave rejuvenated and with unforgettable memories!
